The car hire industry could be classified by the length of the rentals. There are short term rentals which are priced daily, weekly and monthly. Then there are longer terms where rentals which are typically between 24 and 48 months.
The short term industry has multiple routes of entry and has many uses. Uses are varied and would include holiday rentals, use as a replacement vehicle and courtesy cars. In the case of short term hires it would be necessary to, as a minimum, provide identification in the form of a full driving licence. It is also possible that a credit search would be taken out and a form of deposit may be required as protection for the car hire firm. An insurance policy would be needed which can be provided by the hire firm. Ensure you are clear what the policy is covering you for and check the level of excess before signing up.
The cost of rentals will be more expensive on a daily basis than monthly or quarterly rentals. Try to plan how long you will need the vehicle for before you take to try to minimize the daily cost.
There is less options available for mid length rentals such as 12 month terms. The costs can be prohibitive for both the consumer and the providers.
Longer terms rentals tend to be 24 to 48 months but can sometimes be longer at 60 months. Again the longer rentals will be cheaper on a monthly basis than the shorter terms. It is worth considering carefully how long you are prepared to keep the same car as the escape costs from the contract can be costly.
The long term car rental will require a credit search and a larger initial payment of 3 months is often taken. Remember you will need to take out fully comprehensive insurance so you will need to factor this into the cost. Also consider maintenance costs, if you are doing a large number of miles it may be worth taking a maintenance contract.

History of Purple Parking
Purple Parking was the brainchild of Michael Inwards who set up a Park and Ride service to Heathrow Airport when he identified a clear demand for a cheap and reliable means of transportation to and from the airport. At that time, as Heathrow Airport expanded, traffic in and around the area increased dramatically and Michael realised that there would be a market for a service that enabled travellers to avoid the inconvenience of traffic congestion by offering them a place on the perimeter of the airport to park their vehicle and then providing a frequent bus service for their onward journey, which would lessen the stress of travelling. Consequently, in 1990 Michael, together with Ken Rayne set up the fledgling business called Secure Storage at Brent Road in Southall with three buses and less than a dozen staff.
The business expanded rapidly and over the next five years, more buses were acquired and more staff employed, and Purple Parking were in the process of building up a loyal customer base. As many of our customers were businessmen, the Purple Parking management realised that there was a demand for a chauffeur service and so in 1995 the Meet and Greet service was introduced, offering customers the opportunity to be met at the airport by a driver, their vehicle collected on the day they travel and then returned to them at the airport on their arrival back at Heathrow. In 2000 the decision was taken to change the name of the company to Purple Parking, as we felt that the title Secure Storage was too generic and Purple Parking had more possibilities as a brand name. It was in 2002 that Purple Parking was able to provide parking for travellers nationwide, offering booking facilities for all the major airports in the UK.
From the date of its inception, Purple Parking has striven to constantly update our systems and revise procedures to improve the service that we provide. Over the years all areas of the business have been reviewed, new technology utilised and security constantly evaluated to ensure that that the best possible facilities are available. Despite our rapid expansion, Purple Parking has remained a family concern that continues to focus on customer service. From our humble beginnings in 1990, we now employ around 650 staff and offer additional facilities such as car washes. Our name is synonymous with the notion of a quality service at competitive prices and as a result, many blue chip companies have been using our facilities for many years, as well as the close relationship that we enjoy with all the major travel management companies. The company's security procedures are evaluated annually and each year Purple Parking has been awarded the AA/Police Gold Award for security.
On an annual basis, Purple Parking will provide parking for over a hundred thousand customers with our Park and Ride service and in excess of another hundred thousand with our Chauffeur service. Over one million customers every year use our facilities and during the time we have been trading we have handled every make, model and colour of vehicle. It has always been our intention to reward our customers for their loyalty and in 1995 we introduced our members club which offers discounts and other benefits, including air miles.
In recent years we have made numerous technological improvements to our operation, including the introduction of an up to date, adaptable booking system and a state of the art camera tunnel to provide maximum security for our customers. In addition our innovative new website guarantees that the customer is booking the best possible service at a competitive price.
